Project management: An audit and assurance lens

This session will explore the project management lifecycle through an audit and assurance lens. We’ll speak about governance, risk, planning, cost control, and the importance of probity, drawing on real-world examples from across the public sector.

One featured case study is the redevelopment of the Naenae Pool, offering lessons in managing complexity and delivering outcomes that matter to communities.

Our speakers are Peter Catterick, Associate Director, Specialist Audit and Assurance Services at Audit New Zealand, and Andrew Quinn, Project Manager at Hutt City Council. The session will be chaired by Stephen Walker, Audit New Zealand’s Executive Director.

Integrity and accountability in corporate governance

On Monday, 5 May, our client event featured Ron Warmington, a renowned forensic accountant and co-founder of Second Sight in the UK, now in New Zealand. Ron played a crucial role in uncovering the truth behind the Horizon IT scandal.

Observations from our audits of councils’ 2024-34 long-term plans

Thank you to everyone who attended our client event where Andrew McConnell and Henry Broughton from the Office of the Auditor-General discussed their recent report examining 32 consultation documents and 58 long-term plans audited between June and October 2024. 

They led an engaging discussion on the report's key findings, highlighted the role of audit in ensuring transparency and accountability, and explored what these insights mean for decision-makers.
